Theme/Subject/Topic

What could be so interesting about a murderer who hasn't been caught, and why would someone write a book about it? I can definitely answer that for you. The book "Zodiac" by Robert Graysmith is about the unsolved cases that the Zodiac Killer has committed. The reason this book is so interesting and definitely worth a read, is because, not only has the killer still not been identified, but there's so many twists, you would hardly believe it's all true. The Zodiac Killer taunts and tortures the police with notes saying who he may kill next, who he's already killed, or just creepy nonsense that will send shivers down your spine. No evidence has ever been left behind to make further connections, besides the hand writing in the notes, but even those have police confused. "Police announced that 'a state expert has compared our main suspect's handwriting and ruled it not the same as the Zodiac's. But that does not mean that our local man did not kill the girl. It merely means that the Riverside man is not the Zodiac,' (Graysmith174)." There are so many frustrating things about the Zodiac cases, and it makes you just want to keep reading to see what happens. But I can assure you, and I hate to spoil this, but the Zodiac, to this day, has not been identified. Whoever he is, he makes for a great book, that's for sure.

  1. By the way you described this book, it definitely looks intriguing to me. I love reading books that involve a lot of mystery because the feeling of wanting to know what happens next makes me want to continue the book. By understanding the idea of having a killer on the loose makes me realize how many cold cases that are still unsolved today. How can someone become so manipulative that they avoid the justice system when committing a crime?

  2. I agree with Maddie. The book does seem interesting. Villains who trick and make the heroes run around in circles make the story more interesting to me. It makes me what to know what happens next. Will they finally get caught or will it all just remain a mystery?

    1. The Zodiac was never caught, and it still remains that way today. They have had many suspects with evidence supporting it, but something always happens that proves them wrong, so it's a crazy and confusing thing that has been sending people in all different directions with these cases. There could be more than one Zodiac, or maybe he's taking credit for crimes that aren't even his. The possibilities with this case is endless, and that's why many people believe that it will never get solved.

  3. Kirsten you truly make me wanna read this book. I have always loved anything that is categorized as suspenseful or anything that has a plot twist. From what it seems, this Zodiac killer is something else because how do you kill so many but are still on the run or in hiding? Is he even human?
